Self-advocacy The Role of the Student-led IEP

Our Vitals in Transition this week was on the role of the student-led IEP.  It is so important to give students a voice in their own planning in order to help them be college and career-ready.  The Vitals in Transition: Self-advocacy The Role of the student-led IEP PowerPoint has many useful links to check out, and you can watch the recording below.  It can also be found under the EVENTS tab.

“Beginning their freshman year, students should be more than just observers seated at the table at their IEP meetings. They should be invited to discuss what accommodations they are using and how effective they think the accommodations are.(Elksnin & Elksnin 2009)

Students are also more likely to ask for accommodations (at the college level) if they have been deeply involved with their own planning in high school.
